MAX487CPA+ is a half duplex, low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS422 communication. Drivers are short-circuit current limited and are protected against excessive power dissipation by thermal shutdown circuitry that places the driver outputs into a high-impedance state. The receiver input has a fail-safe feature that guarantees a logic-high output if the input is an open circuit. It is used in applications such as low-power RS-485 transceivers, low-power RS-422 transceivers, level translators, transceivers for EMI-sensitive applications, and industrial-control local area networks.

- Quiescent current is 120μA typical at (VCC = 5V ±5%)

- Input current is ±2µA maximum at (DE, DI, RE, VCC = 5V ±5%)
- Receiver input hysteresis is 70mV typical at (VCM = 0V, VCC = 5V ±5%)
- Driver rise or fall time is 2000ns maximum at (RDIFF = 54ohm, CL1 = CL2 = 100pF)
- Receiver input to output is 2000ns maximum at (RDIFF = 54ohm, CL1 = CL2 = 100pF)
- Receiver short-circuit current is 95mA maximum at (VCC = 5V ±5%, 0V ≤ VO ≤ VCC)
- Operating temperature range from 0°C to +70°C
- 8-pin plastic DIP package
